Pulmonologist:

branch of medicine dedicated to the study of respiratory diseases.

Pneumonia:

potentially severe lung infection that can be mono- or bilateral that in some cases requires hospitalization (more severe cases). It is an lung infection usually caused by bacteria or, less frequently, by viruses or fungi. The infection typically occurs by contagion from other people or as a result of sudden changes in temperature.

The most common symptoms of pneumonia are fever, cough, expectoration, malaise, chest pain, nausea and vomiting. The treatment involves antibiotic therapy in most cases.

Bronchiectasis:

chronic airway disease characterized by permanent dilations of the bronchi and in most cases by chronic cough and sputum, frequent or chronic respiratory infections, fatigue and breathlessness.

Cystic Fibrosis:

genetic and hereditary disease that is characterized by an altered salt content in body secretions (sweat, respiratory secretions, etc.).

Normally first disease manifestations already appear since the first months of life, but symptoms can occur even in adulthood (usually mild cases of the disease). Despite the spread of prenatal screening and new therapies, cystic fibrosis is unfortunately still a life-threatening systemic disease today. The most common symptoms are respiratory (cough, sputum, recurrent infections, bronchiectasis), digestive (pancreatic insufficiency, ileum, etc.) and affect the reproductive system (male infertility, etc.).

Immunodeficiencies:

is a group of congenital diseases (from birth) or secondary to specific diseases or therapies (chemotherapy, etc.) that result in poor functioning of the immune system (our defences). Patients suffering from some kind of immunodeficiency have a high risk of contracting infections of various types and in particular respiratory and digestive and can develop bronchiectasis as a common chronic clinical manifestation.

COPD (Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease):

chronic inflammatory disease usually secondary to tobacco smoke, mainly characterized by breathlessness (dyspnea) especially with efforts, cough and chronic sputum in many cases.

Astha:

chronic inflammatory airway disease that is usually characterized by acute attacks of breathlessness, especially in case of exertion or exposure to allergens (respiratory allergies) and respiratory wheezing.
